WHO WE ARE – ABOUT US

1.      Introduction

ACK Ebenezer children and youth Centre is a registered Community based Organization (CBO), based at the ACK Diocese of Mumias. We have a program called Tumaini Mumias which is geared at reaching out to street children and is an initiative that empowers children and youth by helping them build dignity and self-worth.  It provides a networking space for growth and motivation offering counseling and entertainment.

While Tumaini Mumias is focused on the underprivileged, the Centre welcomes children and youth from all backgrounds to promote integration and reduce stigmatization and discrimination.

WHAT WE DO- OUR INTERVENTIONS

1.      Street families

We do outreach to vulnerable children and youth in the streets of Mumias providing them with food, a safe place to connect, counsel and receive mentorship.

2.      Skills and training

We provide skills and training to equip the youth holistically so that they can be a positive impact on society.

3.      Mentorship

We provide mentorship and counseling to vulnerable and fragile people as a way to rehabilitate their minds and push them to effective societal integration

4.      Education

We offer educational support o vulnerable children and youth evaluating their needs individually for a tailored approach

5.      Food bank

We do outreach to schools and vulnerable groups by providing food. We also welcome partnership and support in building our food bank for effective support to those in need.

WHY (WE ARE/WE DO) WHAT WE DO? – JUSTIFICATION

There are many problems facing children and youth today. From inequitable resources to challenges in education, poverty, marginalization, social conditions, poverty, stigma/discrimination, unemployment, disease, substance addiction, disabilities, family issues, hunger and malnutrition. To be able to tackle these issues, we have outlined various approaches by focusing on the priority of inculcating social, religious and economic values to the youth in a fun and entertaining way through creating a safe space and offering programs geared towards restoring dignity and eradicating unacceptable behaviors.

HOW WE DO IT- IMPLEMENTATION

The Implementation of the Tumaini Mumias programs will be supervised by an all-inclusive committee of diocesan workers and stakeholders, working together with the partners to revive the project and radically grow it to reach a wide population of youth in Mumias. Our approach to this is by

a.       Offering meals to street children and vulnerable groups to help overcome hunger challenges

b.      Offering skills training to combat unemployment and idleness

c.       Giving counseling to overcome substance abuse, peer pressure and other social challenges

d.      Having youth camps to train and mentor on emerging issues

e.       Creating a safe space to allow youth connect, network, be mentored, entertained

f.        Cultivating social values acceptable in society

g.      Creating exposure to role models to guide and mentor youth in community living

h.      Providing education, creative skills and vocational opportunities to bridge market inequalities

The implementation will be through the outlined programs;

a.       TV entertainment

b.      Art and creatives

c.       Sports Music and Dance

d.      Remedial educational assistance

e.       Beauty, cooking, sewing, knitting trainings

f.        Computer knowledge

g.      Get together’s for youths and peer role models/mentors

WHEN WE OPERATE – AVAILABILITY

We are available Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm at the Ebenezer Centre. Our programs sometimes scheduled for weekends and notified in good time.

WHERE WE ARE – LOCATION

We are based at the Diocese of Mumias compound at the Ebenezer house building, Bomani Mumias.
